Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program at Risk
In a letter to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Tony Reardon urged the administration to keep the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program in place. Under the program, which was enacted in 2007, public sector employees can apply to have their student loans forgiven after they’ve made 120 qualifying monthly payments. The 2018 White House budget calls for the elimination of these loans. Recently Education officials have announced that the president’s proposal would only affect employees who took out loans on or after July 1, 2018. NTEU President Reardon continues to advocate that this program be kept in tack for all public sector employees.
